Zelensky announces fresh victory vow
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky reaffirmed his commitment to defeating Russia on Wednesday while highlighting an upcoming phone call with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking at a press conference alongside Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Zelensky expressed hope that trump would share details of his recent discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Today, I will speak with President Trump. We will go over the details together. I expect to hear about his conversation with Putin and discuss the next steps," Zelensky stated, emphasizing his determination to prevail in the conflict.
"We continue to fight, defend ourselves, and protect our sovereignty and independence. We will definitely win this war," he added.
The 2.5-hour conversation between Putin and Trump reportedly focused on the Ukraine crisis and possible resolutions. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Putin accepted Trump’s proposal for a 30-day mutual pause in strikes on energy infrastructure and immediately ordered Russian forces to halt such attacks.
Zelensky voiced cautious support for the initiative but raised concerns about its implementation. "If Russia stops striking our targets, we will certainly stop hitting theirs. But Putin’s promises alone are not enough; there must be oversight. The U.S. should be the main guarantor of this control," he stated.
Following Putin’s order, the Russian military was forced to intercept and destroy seven of its own kamikaze drones that had already been deployed toward Ukrainian energy sites. However, just hours after the Putin-Trump talks concluded, Kiev launched an attack on a Russian oil pumping station using three kamikaze drones, sparking a massive fire.
Moscow condemned the incident as a deliberate provocation by Kiev to undermine the U.S.-led peace efforts.
