Google Settles Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Paying USD28 Million

(MENAFN) google has agreed to pay USD28 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit that accused the firm of racial discrimination in salary as well as career advancement, as reported by a news agency on Wednesday.

The lawsuit, filed in 2021 by previous worker Ana Cantu, alleged that Hispanic, Latino, Native American, as well as other minority employees were assigned to lower-paying roles compared to their white and Asian counterparts.

Based on the complaint, a leaked internal document indicated significant pay gaps for similar work, which highlighted ongoing systemic inequalities.

The settlement, which affects at least 6,632 workers who were employed at Google between February 15, 2018, and December 31, 2024, has received initial approval from a judge in California.

Although Google denied any wrongdoing, the company acknowledged that it had “reached a resolution.” A representative for the firm stated that Google remains dedicated to ensuring fair compensation, employment, as well as promotion opportunities.

This case is part of a wider trend involving corporate diversity, equity, as well as inclusion (DEI) policies.

In the current months, companies such as Google, Meta, in addition to Amazon have scaled back their DEI initiatives, whereas United States Leader Donald Trump called for the elimination of such programs within government agencies and contractors.
