Meta deactivates Facebook accounts of SMNI for alleged hate speech

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Meta deactivated the Facebook accounts of Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI), a prominent Philippine broadcast media that has long supported previous President Rodrigo Duterte. The suspension, which was confirmed by SMNI on its official website, also impacted its associated platforms, DZAR 1026 as well as SMNI Integrated News.

SMNI stated that Meta’s decision was based on accusations of violating policies related to "expressing hatred or contempt for a group of people and using harmful racial stereotypes." In a defiant response, SMNI remarked, "If this is the price for speaking the TRUTH, then so be it. SMNI will always speak the TRUTH THAT MATTERS."

Rodrigo Duterte, the former president of the Philippines (2016–2022), is undergoing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. He is set to remain in detention until a confirmation of charges hearing, slated for September 23, as reported by the court.
