The Chiriquí Puerto Armuelles Pier Is Being Built AMP Inspects Progress

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), led by its administrator, Mr. Luis Roquebert, conducted a working tour in the province of Chiriquí to oversee the progress of the new Puerto Armuelles pier and analyze investment opportunities in the region. During the tour, meetings were also held with companies interested in operating within this strategic project.

Dock Inspection and Projections

The delegation began their day with a visit to the Extractora del Barú (Ebasa) company, which has over 20 years of experience in the production of vegetable oils and fats. They then inspected the area under development for the new dock, a key infrastructure that will cover 35 hectares and will be used for various maritime activities.

Among the Plans for this Multipurpose Port are:

✅ Installation of a factory for handling soybeans.

✅ Creation of a refrigeration area for seafood products.

✅ Construction of new offices for the AMP and other entities.

Engineer Roquebert, along with the mayor of Puerto Armuelles, Franklin Valdés, also evaluated the feasibility of building a new seafood market on nearby land, as well as the reuse of an existing concrete ramp for this project.

A Port with New Features

Originally planned to supply fishermen exclusively, the project has been transformed into a multipurpose port to ensure its financial sustainability. Its new features include:

✔ Reception of bulk cargo.

✔ Supply of oils and fuels through pipelines.

✔ Mini-cruise tourist walkway with capacity for up to 500 passengers.

Construction of the pier's second axis is currently underway, with modifications to its length and width. The project is expected to be completed by July 2026.

Visit to the Panama Petroterminal

The tour concluded with a visit to the Petroterminal de Panamá (PTP) facilities, where the AMP team learned about the oil transfer, tank storage, and infrastructure maintenance operations. With these actions, the AMP reaffirms its commitment to the country's maritime development, promoting investment and modernizing port infrastructure to boost economic growth in Chiriquí and the entire country.

Remember the old Puerto Armeulles Pier from days gone by after Chiquita Banana left town?
