Utah Museum Of Contemporary Art Announces Major Loan As Part Of The National Gallery Of Art's Across The Nation Lending Program
SALT LAKE CITY, March 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) announces its partnership with the National gallery of Art for the National Gallery's "Across the Nation" program, which brings key works of art to regional museums across the United States in 2025 and 2026.
As part of the program, UMOCA will receive SOL Lewitt's Wall Drawing No. 309 on loan, on view March 25, 2025 through March 25, 2027 in the museum's lobby.
"UMOCA is honored to partner with the National Gallery of Art to bring Sol LeWitt's Wall Drawing No. 309 to Utah as part of 'Across the Nation,'" said Laura Allred Hurtado, UMOCA's Executive Director. "LeWitt's work embodies an ever-changing execution of conceptual ideas-where instruction, interpretation, and realization unfold uniquely in each installation. As a non-collecting institution with continuously rotating exhibitions, UMOCA is a fitting home for this ephemeral installation, reflecting our commitment to art as a dynamic and evolving experience."
"'Across the Nation' is the manifestation of the National Gallery's vision as the nation's art museum. We are so thrilled to bring some of the most beloved works from the nation's collection directly into communities across the country as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of America," said Kaywin Feldman, director of the National Gallery of Art.
The National Gallery of Art worked with all partner institutions-selected to broaden access to the national collection in as many regions of the United States as possible-to curate a unique selection of artworks for each "Across the Nation"presentation. The selections introduce new artists and perspectives to these communities while complementing each Museum's own collections and programming.
Through this program, works of art by renowned artists from the National Gallery's collection will be on loan at 10 partner museums in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Utah, and Washington, creating unprecedented access to the nation's masterworks by placing them directly in communities across the country. "Across the Nation" is part of the National Gallery's programming commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, taking place in 2026, which also includes a series of special installations and exhibitions, on-site programs, and digital content.
