Trump administration publishes JFK assassination documents
(MENAFN) The administration of US President Donald trump has made thousands of government documents related to the 1963 assassination of former President John F. Kennedy publicly available.
On Tuesday, the National Archives released around 63,000 pages of records online in two batches, with additional files set to be published once digitization is complete. In a statement, the agency confirmed that all previously classified records from the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection had now been made public.
Shortly after taking office, Trump signed an executive order mandating the declassification of documents related to the assassinations of JFK, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
JFK’s assassination in Dallas has fueled decades of speculation, particularly regarding the possible involvement of rogue government elements. A 2023 Gallup poll found that 65% of Americans were skeptical of the official investigation’s conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Among respondents, 20% believed Oswald conspired with the US government, while 16% suspected CIA involvement.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said the public had "been waiting decades" for these records to be released, reaffirming his commitment to transparency. He noted that approximately 80,000 pages of previously classified files would be made accessible.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) echoed this sentiment, stating that the release was part of an effort to enhance transparency and restore public trust in federal agencies.
With the newly available documents lacking descriptions and being labeled only by record numbers, historians, researchers, and journalists are expected to spend months analyzing the material for new insights into Kennedy’s assassination.
