Russia plans on talking about space collaboration with Musk
(MENAFN) Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund and special representative for international economic cooperation, has announced plans to discuss space collaboration with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
Speaking to RIA on Tuesday, Dmitriev emphasized Russia’s strong aerospace capabilities and expressed optimism about potential joint projects with Musk. He praised the billionaire’s vision for advancing humanity and fostering creative progress.
Dmitriev previously suggested a joint US-Russia Mars exploration mission in 2029, stating that technological advancements should serve humanity rather than destruction. However, he clarified that cooperation with Musk could extend beyond Mars, involving Russia’s key space organizations, Roscosmos and Rosatom, to enhance the efficiency and safety of space missions.
Musk has long advocated for Mars colonization, aiming to launch an initial mission as early as 2026. SpaceX plans to send a Starship spacecraft carrying a Tesla Optimus humanoid robot to the Red Planet next year, with potential human landings by 2029.
Dmitriev’s remarks come amid improving US-Russia relations following diplomatic talks in Saudi Arabia last month. Both nations agreed to restore diplomatic ties and explore economic and scientific cooperation, including joint space initiatives.
