Sudanese army expands control over RSF at presidential palace

(MENAFN) The Sudanese army has reinforced its siege on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at the presidential palace in Khartoum. This escalation follows a significant development on Monday when the army announced that its forces stationed at the general command head office successfully merged with the armored corps south of the capital. This marks the first time such a consolidation has occurred since the conflict broken out in April 2023.

“Today, the armored forces joined the brave defenders at the General Command after clearing the Al-Shaab Teaching Hospital of RSF militia,” military representative Nabil Abdullah stated in a short announcement.

This strategic advancement enabled the army to gain full control over all southern entry routes into central Khartoum. With this position secured, military forces are now poised to advance further east and south, aiming to regain complete control of the capital. Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount on RSF units still entrenched within the presidential palace and its nearby areas.

Since the conflict’s onset, RSF forces had enforced a stringent blockade on the armored corps, one of the army’s most critical military bases in Khartoum, effectively cutting off essential supply lines.
