EU Leaders Support Arab-Managed Reconstruction Plan in Gaza

(MENAFN) European Union members criticized the politicization of humanitarian aid entering Gaza, with confirming their backing for an Arab-managed reconstruction program during the group's Foreign Affairs Council talk in Brussels, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced on Monday.

"Everybody condemned the politicization of humanitarian aid. Humanitarian aid has to reach the people in need in Gaza," Kallas stated during a news conference after the talk.

Kallas expressed support for the Arab peace program, which outlines a framework for Gaza’s reconstruction, but also noted that key elements of the plan require further discussions. "We were welcoming the Arab peace plan or Arab reconstruction plan for Gaza. Of course, there are elements that need to be discussed further," she explained.

Additionally, Kallas underscored the EU’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine, highlighting broad political support for a EURO40 billion (USD43.6 billion) defense initiative. "Everybody understood around the table that we should really show our resolve right now and support Ukraine so that they can defend themselves," she concluded.
