Zelensky Appoints Andriy Hnatov As New Chief Of General Staff


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Anatoliy Barhylevych from the post of Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces of Ukraine, appointing Andriy Hnatov as his successor.

The relevant decrees were published on the presidential website, Ukrinform reports.

“Anatoliy Vladyslavovych Barhylevych shall be dismissed from the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” reads Decree No. 169/2025 .

In accordance with Decree No. 170/2025 , Andriy Hnatov has been appointed to replace Barhylevych on his post.



Defense Minister Rustem Umerov emphasized on Facebook that changes in the Armed Forces are needed to increase combat capability. To this end, the command system is being changed and clear standards are being introduced.

He recalled that Major General Hnatov had over 27 years of military experience, led a Marine brigade, troops of Operational Command East, and the Joint Forces.

According to Umerov, Barhylevych has now been appointed Inspector General of the Ministry of Defense, tasked with monitoring compliance with military standards and strengthening discipline.

The Minister expressed gratitude to Lieutenant General Barhylevych for his service as Chief of the General Staff.

"In the most difficult times, his experience and professionalism contributed to organizing Ukraine's defenses. He remains part of the team. Today, his expertise is needed to reform the Main Inspectorate and introduce modern control mechanisms in the Defense Forces, which will allow us to enhance discipline, efficiency, and combat capability of our troops," Umerov noted.

As Ukrinform reported, Zelensky appointed Anatoliy Barhylevych as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2024. Prior to that, the position was held by Serhiy Shaptala.
