Canada considers other options alternating US-made F-35 fighter jets

(MENAFN) Canada is taking into account the other options to the American-developed F-35 stealth fighters as well as holding meetings with the opposing war planes producers, as reported by Defense Minister Bill Blair on late Friday, just hours following his re-designation to the position in Prime Minister Mark Carney's recently built Cabinet.

His comments happened following Portugal’s hint that it prepares to give up its acquisition of the modern aircraft.

The reconsideration in Canada is happening among an intense political fight with the Trump government over tariffs as well as intimidations from the United States leader to add Canada to the American territories via financial stress.

Following years of postponements, the Liberal government finished signing a deal with the United States military titan Lockheed Martin in June 2023 to buy 88 F-35 jets.

"It was the fighter jet identified by our air force as the platform that they required, but we are also examining other alternatives—whether we need all of those fighter jets to be F-35s," Blair informed a news agency.
