UN head urges immediate end to violence in Syria’s coastal area

(MENAFN) On Monday, a UN representative mentioned that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed grave concern over the recent surge of violence in Syria’s coastal areas, which has resulted in a series of summary executions, in which a UN staff member was pronounced dead.

Speaking at a daily meeting, Stephane Dujarric, Guterres representative, stated that UN head conveyed his deepest sympathies to the Syrian people grieving the death of their loved ones and wished those affected a swift rehab.

"The secretary-general calls on all parties to protect civilians and stop inflammatory rhetoric and actions," Dujarric stated, emphasizing the challenges Syria faces from 14 years of clash, adding: "He reiterates his concern over escalating tensions among communities in Syria."

The UN Secretary-General has called for the instant halt of violence and the prosecution of those responsible for the killings. Guterres underscored the importance of handling the affairs of Syria's communities in a genuine and effective way.
