(MENAFN- Atteline) 10th March 2025, Dubai, UAE – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, announces the appointment of entrepreneur and social media personality, Karen Wazen, as its newest Goodwill Ambassador in the MENA region. A dedicated advocate for refugees and displaced communities around the world, Karen has consistently leveraged her presence on social media platforms to raise awareness, encourage engagement, and inspire positive change in support of forcibly displaced people globally.
As part of UNHCR’s wider Ramadan campaign, themed 'Connected by Humanity, Strengthened by Community', Karen marks the start of her new role, by launching a special initiative this Ramadan through her brand, with proceeds going towards providing life-saving assistance, including shelter, medicine, food, and clean water, to displaced families through UNHCR. This initiative fosters a sense of shared commitment to helping those in need, by bringing people together to support refugees and displaced families during the month of compassion and generosity.
Reflecting on her new role and the Ramadan initiative, Wazen said: "Being appointed as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador is an honor and a profound responsibility. I hope to capitalize on my platform to shed light on the struggles refugees face to inspire meaningful action and help those in need. This Ramadan, through my collaboration with UNHCR, I aim not to not only to raise awareness but also to provide tangible support to displaced families in need. Every contribution, no matter how small, can help restore hope and dignity to those who have lost so much.”
Welcoming Wazen’s appointment, Khaled Khalifa, UNHCR’s Senior Advisor and Representative to the GCC countries, said: "We are delighted to welcome Karen Wazen as UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador. Her passion and commitment to the refugee cause will be instrumental in raising awareness about the plight of forcibly displaced people and mobilizing essential support. We look forward to working closely with her to amplify the voices of displaced communities and advocate for their rights and well-being.”
“In times of crisis, the strength of our humanity is revealed through collective action. We cannot but rely on the power of the community to provide hope and support to the most vulnerable forcible displaced people. Every act of kindness in solidarity counts and has a direct impact on those in need. We hope that this Ramadan, through the many great initiatives will yield hope and strengthen the sense of communities coming together.”
As a Goodwill Ambassador, Wazen will use her platform to shed light on the challenging realities faced by forcibly displaced communities. Through advocacy, fundraising, and field engagement, she is committed to strengthening support and creating opportunities that empower refugees to rebuild their lives.
