Katara International Ramadan Chess Open To Kick Off Thursday

Doha, Qatar: The Katara International Ramadan Open Chess Championship is set to kick off on Thursday, at the Hall of Building 15 in the Katara Cultural Village.

Organized by the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), the championship will run until March 15, featuring 90 male and female players from 22 countries.
The first round of the classical chess competition, which consists of nine rounds using the Swiss system (60 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move), will commence tomorrow.

The tournament includes the participation of 13 Qatari national team players from various age groups. Among them are Irfan Mohammed, Khaled Al Jumaat, Ahmed Saif, Fahad Al Mansoori, Turki Al Kuwari, Hamad Al Kuwari, Rawda Al Qasabi, Saqr Al Muftah, Asma Al Hammadi, Amer Al Hammadi, Lian Al Qasabi, Abdulaziz Al Mahasna, and Khaled Al Yafei.

This edition will also feature several internationally ranked players on the FIDE list.

QCA President Mohammed Al Mudahka expressed his great satisfaction with the continuity of the championship, considering it one of the most prominent events in the Association's annual calendar.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he noted that the Organizing Committee has completed all arrangements for the competition.

He highlighted the role of these matches in providing participants with valuable experience, given the large number of ranked players participating in the international championship.

The QCA President extended his gratitude to the Katara Cultural Village Foundation for their efforts in ensuring the continued organization of the championship. He emphasized the Association's commitment to such partnerships and its efforts to institutionalize similar tournaments in the annual calendar to refine the skills of national team players and ensure their prominent presence in future competitions.

The Katara International Ramadan Chess Open is considered one of the leading events organized annually during Ramadan by the QCA. It has provided significant support to national teams across all age groups.
