Jane Doe Admits Tony Buzbee Pushed Her To Make False Allegations
Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter Files Lawsuit Against Buzbee, His Employee David Fortney & Jane Doe
Doe Acknowledges "JAY-Z Did Not Sexually Assault Me"
NEW YORK, March 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter filed a lawsuit against attorney Tony Buzbee, attorney David Fortney and Jane Doe in Alabama after Doe admitted that Buzbee pushed her to make the false rape allegations against Mr. Carter. The parties are being sued for malicious prosecution, abuse of process, civil conspiracy and defamation.
The legal filing reveals that Doe voluntarily acknowledged to Mr. Carter's representatives that he never assaulted her and that it was Buzbee "who pushed her to go forward with the false narrative of the assault by Mr. Carter in order to leverage a maximum payday."
After Doe recanted her complaint, Mr. Carter's representatives encouraged her to come forward with the truth, prompting her to respond by saying "What's in it for me?" Furthermore, the complaint uncovers that Buzbee had never personally met – or spoken with – Doe until the day of the NBC News interview, which was long after the demand letter was drafted and sent to Mr. Carter on Nov. 5, 2024.
Buzbee and Fortney attempted to perpetuate the elaborate and malicious extortion scheme against Mr. Carter, but once it was identified that Buzbee was unable to practice law in the Southern District of New York, they had to change their strategy.
Faced with punishment in court for filing a false complaint, Buzbee ultimately dispatched Fortney to fly to Doe's home in Alabama on Feb. 13, 2025 and "manipulatively told Doe that the case against Mr. Carter needed to be dismissed as Mr. Carter had made threats against Doe's life, and it was too dangerous to continue with the case."
The complaint also discloses that Doe has a history of filing false sexual allegations and that she previously made three other allegations that were either dropped or dismissed in court. Additionally, it notes that Doe had been charged with assault in the second degree and had been in court on mental health related issues less than 90 days before her demand letter was sent to Mr. Carter.
