Wildfire breaks out in Japan
The largest wildfire in more than 30 years engulfed Japan on Saturday, one of multiple flames that have led to the death of one person and forced over 1,000 individuals to flee their homes.
According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, the fire that broke out on Wednesday has caused flames to spread across 1,200 hectares in Ofunato forest which is located in the northern region of Iwate.
An agency representative informed AFP regarding the wildfire: "We're still examining the size of the affected area, but it is the biggest since the 1992 wildfire" in Kushiro, Hokkaido.The past record was surpassed by this fire that engulfed 1,000 hectares.
The agency reported that roughly 1,700 firemen were being deployed from all over the region.
A public broadcaster's aerial footage displayed white smoke expanding and wrapping around a whole mountain.
On Thursday, the corpse of one person who had tragically died in the fire was discovered by local authorities.
