Israel says strikes in southern Syria are part of ‘demilitarization policy’

(MENAFN) Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz has stated that Israeli military aircrafts attacked southern Syria on Tuesday night, saying the strike was included in Israel's new strategy of "demilitarizing southern Syria."

"The Air Force is currently forcefully striking southern Syria," Katz has stated, also saying that the strike was part of the strategy, as claimed by Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, for "demilitarizing southern Syria," on Monday.

"The message is clear: we will not allow southern Syria to become southern Lebanon," he added, saying that any try by Syria's new government's forces as well as military groups to settle themselves in southern Syria "will be met with fire."

The Israeli military made a statement that the strike was aimed for military areas in Syria, such as command centers as well as several locations that are full of arms supplies.

"The presence of military forces and assets in the southern part of Syria pose a threat to the citizens of Israel," the military asserted, swearing to "continue to operate to remove any threat to the citizens of the State of Israel."
