Most Taiwanese are against transferring semiconductor tech to US

(MENAFN) A survey that was published on Monday revealed that 84.8 percent of Taiwanese respondents are against moving Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (TSMC) advanced technology to the US, Taiwan News stated.

The outcomes happened as United States Leader Donald Trump continued supporting the transference of semiconductor manufacturing using the threat of tariffs.

Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang shared the vote results at a news conference, stressing the government to plan for possible trade discussions with Washington.

The outcomes showed that 85.6 percent of people who voted believe Trump will charge tariffs on Taiwan, whereas 62.4 percent believe the US has the upper hand in trade discussions.

And it revealed that 83.8 percent of respondents all agreed that firms like TSMC are the country’s “sacred mountain.”

Another 62.5 percent of the respondents think the strategic significance of Taiwan’s semiconductor sector would cause Western interference in case conflict with China intensified.
