266 Bunkers Demolished, 100 Arrested In Kurram As Residents Struggle Amid Road And Communication Blackout

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PARACHINAR: As part of the ongoing efforts to implement the peace agreement in Kurram district, a total of 266 bunkers have been demolished so far, while around 100 individuals accused of disrupting peace have been arrested.

However, despite these measures, the district remains cut off due to the continued closure of roads and suspension of 3G and 4G services for over four months, causing immense hardship for residents.

According to the district administration, the demolition of bunkers is being carried out following the peace agreement, and more bunkers are being dismantled. However, due to ongoing tensions in the region, the main highway and other routes remain closed, paralyzing commercial activities and leaving marketplaces deserted.

The prolonged blockade has resulted in a severe shortage of essential goods, leaving residents struggling for food and medical supplies. The lack of medicines and healthcare facilities has reportedly led to an increase in fatalities, particularly among young children and the elderly.

Haji Imdad, a representative of the local traders' community, stated that food supplies brought in for Ramadan were looted in the areas of Bagan, Ochat, and Mandori in Lower Kurram, exacerbating the already dire food crisis. He urged the government to provide an immediate relief package to address the worsening humanitarian situation.

Meanwhile, social activist Mir Afzal Khan emphasized the need for stricter measures to restore peace in the region. He called on the government to announce a special relief package for the people of Upper Kurram, who have been enduring these hardships for the past five months, particularly with the holy month of Ramadan approaching.
