Ukraine's Military Updates Basic Training Program With Focus On Resilience And Combat Skills
That's according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense , Ukrinform reports.
In the updated program, the total duration of training remains unchanged at 1.5 months (taking into account rest days for recruits), of which 41 days are allocated for training, six for rest, and one for administrative matters. The overall training volume is 372 instructional hours.
The process of refining the previous edition, incorporating suggestions from elite combat military units, was led by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel Oleh Apostol. The Ministry of Defense recalled that as of November 1, 2024, the duration of basic military training is 1.5 months. The program, approved by Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi at the end of 2024 begins on February 10.
Key innovations of the updated program include the so-called "zero day" or "reset day" (adapting civilians to the military environment), an enhanced psychological training component, training on the "Kropyva" software, an expanded pre-medical aid course, the addition of "marching" preparation (physical training) to build endurance among service members, and an extended pre-medical aid course.
According to the Ministry of Defense, an important aspect of the training program is the inclusion of improved marksmanship exercises with individual weapons at short distances (engagement in direct contact with the enemy up to 100 meters) and for speed, with additional ammunition allocated. The exercises have been refined by representatives of combat units that effectively engage and neutralize the enemy in their respective operational areas.

"The new basic military training program is the result of a thorough analysis of the combat experience of our units. We have optimized the training process, removing outdated elements and focusing on practical skills, psychological resilience, and other critically necessary functions on the modern battlefield," said Deputy Minister of Defense, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.
The program consists of four main modules, including an introductory course (8 hours), an individual training course (107 hours), unit-level operations training (209 hours), and a comprehensive tactical exercise (48 hours).
Upon successful completion of training, service members receive a certificate and qualification under Military Occupational Specialty Code 100, "Rifleman."
The next stage of training consists of specialized courses tailored to designated positions in combat units, where military personnel acquire advanced knowledge and skills for specific military specialties.
