Ukraine Brings Back 4,131 Pows, Civilians From Russian Captivity
That's according to the the Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of Prisoners of War, Ukrinform reports.
"Among those released from captivity, there are many seriously ill, seriously wounded, and those who have been in Russian captivity for more than two and a half years. This is the 61st POW exchange organized by the Coordination Headquarters since Russia's full-scale invasion," the report says.
In total, thanks to the efforts of the Headquarters operating on behalf of the President of Ukraine, 4,131 people have already been returned from Russian captivity, both military and civilians, as well as foreign citizens.
Read also: Five camps for POWs operating in UkraineThis time, 108 soldiers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine are returning home (in particular, seven from the Territorial Defense Forces, 26 from the Navy, and three from the Air Force). Twenty-two National Guardsmen, 19 border guards, and a representative of the National Police have also been released from captivity.
"They defended Ukrainian land from the enemy in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Sumy, and Kyiv regions. In particular, the National Guardsmen who guarded the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, as well as the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, are among those released. Ukrainian servicemen who participated in the Kursk raid will also see their families soon," the Coordination Headquarters noted.
Among the released are 47 sergeants, 69 soldiers, 16 sailors, and 18 officers .
"Ukrainian servicemen will receive proper treatment, assistance in rehabilitation and social reintegration, as well as payments as part of the financial support they were supposed to receive during their captivity, and one-time material assistance," the Coordination Headquarters emphasized.
The Headquarters expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for its assistance in making the exchange happen.
As Ukrinform reported, 150 defenders returned to Ukraine as part of the POW exchange with Russia.
