Lebanon files UN complaint over Israel’s ceasefire breaches
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Lebanon raised a complaint alongside with the UN Security Council against Israel regarding its sustained breach of a ceasefire agreement and UN Resolution 1701.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry explained that the complaint was lodged through Lebanon’s permanent mission in New York in response to Israel's breac of resolution 1701, the ceasefire declaration, and its blatant disregard for the associated security arrangements.
Resolution 1701, approved on August 11, 2006, demands an immediate cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, alongside the creation of a demilitarized zone between the Blue Line and the Litani River in southern Lebanon, allowing exceptions for the Lebanese military and UNIFIL forces.
The ministry explained that the complaint provided a detailed account of Israel's violations in southern Lebanon, which included both ground and air attacks, the devastation of homes and entire residential neighborhoods, the kidnapping of Lebanese citizens, including soldiers from the military, and assaults on civilians who were attempting to return to their villages near the border.
