HOME Project To Provide Housing Compensation For 5,700 Ukrainians Mezentseva

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Maria Mezentseva, head of Ukraine's delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), announced that funds from the Council of Europe Development bank (CEB) will allow around 5,700 Ukrainians to receive compensation for destroyed housing.

The Ukrainian MP told this to Ukrinform.

"An additional EUR 100 million under the HOME project will be allocated for more than 2,000 housing certificates, enabling approximately 5,700 Ukrainians to receive compensation for lost homes," Mezentseva said.

She noted that in 2024, CEB funds were used to purchase about 1,643 housing units.

"Ukraine became a CEB member in 2023 under special conditions, joining without an initial membership fee, thanks to efforts by the Ukrainian PACE delegation and the government," she added.

Mezentseva emphasized that the Council of Europe and PACE remain strong supporters of Ukraine.

"We continue working on crucial initiatives like the Damage Register and Compensation Mechanism for all affected. The Council of Europe's position is clear - frozen Russian assets must be used for reparations," she stated.

Recently, the CEB approved EUR 150 million in funding for housing programs in Ukraine in 2025, including an additional EUR 100 million for the HOME project.

Priority for compensation will be given to combat veterans, returning defenders in need of housing, people with disabilities, and large families. The project is being implemented under a loan agreement between Ukraine and the CEB.
