Kuwait Starts Nat'l Day Celebrations With Flag-Hoisting Ceremony

KUWAIT, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait will officially begin its National Day celebrations on Sunday with a flag-hoisting ceremony under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness the Amir sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The flag-hoisting event marks the start of festivities commemorating Kuwait's 64th National Day and 34th Liberation Day, reflecting on the country's history, milestones, and achievements under its leadership.
This year's celebrations coincide with Kuwait's designation as the Arab Capital of Culture and media 2025, providing an opportunity to showcase the country's accomplishments in culture, media, and the arts, and to highlight its role in fostering cultural dialogue among nations.
The Kuwaiti flag, which has undergone several transformations, was adopted in its current form on September 7, 1961, through an Amiri Decree issued by the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
The new flag was officially raised for the first time on November 24, 1961, during a nationwide ceremony, symbolizing national pride.
Before the current flag, Kuwait's flags included various designs, such as a crescent and star or a red flag with the word Kuwait in white, before evolving into its current form with black, white, red, and green colors.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held across Kuwait's six governorates, officially kicking off national celebrations, and streets and government buildings will be adorned with images of the Amir, the Crown Prince, and the Kuwaiti flag, reflecting the festive atmosphere.
Kuwait also commemorates the 34th Liberation Day, reflecting on the country's freedom from the Iraqi invasion and honoring the contributions and sacrifices of the martyrs who worked to secure its independence.
These occasions serve to reinforce national unity and inspire Kuwaitis to uphold the values of solidarity and dedication to the nation's continued growth and prosperity. (end)
