Kazakhstan Puts Brakes On Potato Exports To Outside Nations
The limitation leaves out exports to countries within the
Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and will remain in place for a
period of six months.
Based on the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission (IDC),
the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan issued Order No. 26,
dated January 27, 2025, "On Certain Issues of Potato Exports from
the Republic of Kazakhstan," which imposes a ban on potato exports
to third countries by all means of transportation.
These measures are designed to keep potato prices from skyrocketing and to curb any wild antics from those in the market.
Currently, there is high demand for Kazakh potatoes from neighboring countries. In 2024, approximately 605,000 tons of potatoes were exported, a 1.5-fold increase compared to 2023 (411,000 tons). This figure marks a record over the past ten years and has had a significant impact on domestic prices.
