Turkish main stock index ends Wednesday’s session lower

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the Turkish benchmark stock index closed at 10,058.47 points, marking a decline of 0.40 percent from the previous day’s close. The Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell by 40.56 points compared to Tuesday’s close, continuing its downward trend for the second consecutive day. This marks an extension of recent losses for the index, reflecting a challenging market environment.

The total transaction volume on the Turkish stock exchange reached 99.4 billion liras, which is equivalent to approximately USD2.85 billion. This figure indicates a moderate level of trading activity for the day, but the market sentiment remained cautious given the index’s decline.

In currency markets, the exchange rate for USD/TRY was 34.8657 as of 6:28 p.m. local time (15:28 GMT). The EUR/TRY rate stood at 36.6408, while the GBP/TRY traded at 44.4751. These exchange rate values reflect the ongoing fluctuations in the Turkish lira against major international currencies, contributing to the volatile financial climate.

Meanwhile, commodity prices showed some variation. The price of gold was USD2,752.61 per ounce, reflecting its position in the global market. The price of Brent crude oil was recorded at USD72.93 per barrel, indicating a relatively stable oil market amid broader economic uncertainties.
