 Turkish airports serve 16.3 million passengers in November, marking 10.8 percent rise
(MENAFN) Turkish airports served 16.3 million passengers in November, marking a 10.8 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. This figure includes both transit passengers and those traveling on domestic and international routes. Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu shared this data, citing figures from the State Airports Authority General Directorate (DHMI). 
Of the 16.3 million passengers, 7.4 million traveled on domestic flights, while 8.8 million passengers took international flights. Additionally, Turkish airports handled 171,051 flights in November, including overflights, which represents a 9.5 percent year-on-year rise. The country's airports also saw a significant increase in air cargo traffic, with a growth of 11.5 percent to reach 4.5 million tons.
Istanbul's two major airports, IGA Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport, accounted for a substantial share of the nation's air traffic. IGA Istanbul Airport saw 6.2 million passengers in November, an 8 percent increase from the previous year, with 40,512 flights. On the other hand, Sabiha Gokcen Airport handled 3.4 million passengers, a 16 percent rise, and managed 20,414 flights during the same period.
For the year-to-date period from January to November, Turkish airports hosted 214.6 million passengers, reflecting a 7.5 percent increase. The total number of flights during this period reached 2.1 million, including overflights. This data underscores the growing demand for air travel in Turkey as the year progresses.
