Abu Dhabi: The country's Zayed International Airport has been named the world's most beautiful airport, topping the 2024 Prix Versailles rankings.

The award celebrates excellence in architecture and design across various categories, including museums, stadiums and airports. Out of 400 contenders worldwide, Zayed International was crowned winner.

Renamed earlier this year in honour of the late sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Zayed International debuted its state-of-the-art Terminal A on November 1st. The new terminal spans 742,000 square metres, accommodates up to 11,000 passengers per hour, and handles 45 million passengers annually.

Designed in an X-shaped layout, the airport's architecture reflects the natural beauty of Abu Dhabi's landscapes, blending functionality with striking aesthetics. This design has earned Zayed International global recognition, including the title of 'Best Airport at Arrivals Globally' at the 2023 Airport Service Quality Awards.

The 2024 Prix Versailles also honoured five other airports for their exceptional design: Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Zumpango, Mexico; Changi Airport Terminal 2 in Singapore; Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok; Logan International Terminal E in Boston; and Kansas City International Airport in the USA.
