South Africa Places 8,403 Medical Graduates For 2025
The placement includes 2,108 medical interns and 6,295 community service personnel, who are scheduled to begin their duties in January, according to Pretoria News, a TV BRICS partner .
The placements cover a wide range of medical fields. These include community service doctors, diagnostic radiographers, physiotherapists, psychologists, dentists, and pharmacists. The department noted that the placements represent a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services across South Africa.
However, the department also acknowledged a critical shortage. It highlighted the urgent need for more health inspectors to combat the rise in foodborne illnesses, particularly those affecting children.
The department confirmed ongoing efforts to address this shortage in collaboration with other government departments and stakeholders to find a long-term solution.
The department's swift completion of the placement process reflects its commitment to a responsive and efficient healthcare system. Provincial health departments are now issuing appointment letters to those graduates who have accepted their placements.
