Media reports Syria fighting off terrorist forces

(MENAFN) The Syrian army has successfully repelled a terrorist offensive near Hama, causing significant casualties among the insurgents, according to state-run SANA news. The attack, led by the Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS) group, an offshoot of Jabhat al-Nusra, and its allies, saw militants capture large areas in the Idlib and Aleppo provinces, even reaching central Aleppo.

In response, the Syrian government sent reinforcements to Hama, bolstering defensive lines with weapons, equipment, and personnel, which prevented further breaches. Syrian-Russian airstrikes intensified against militant targets, including headquarters and weapon depots, causing numerous casualties among the attackers.

Fighting near the towns of Qalaat Al-Madiq and Maardis resulted in the Syrian army securing key areas and inflicting further losses on the terrorists. While the militants entered Aleppo, they were unable to hold ground due to constant bombardment. Syrian officials estimate the terrorists suffered around 1,000 casualties. Russia also supported Syria with airstrikes, reportedly killing hundreds of militants. President Assad vowed that Syria would defeat the terrorists despite the ongoing attacks.
