Preparations underway for funerals of numerous victims killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon
(MENAFN) In Tyre, southern Lebanon, preparations are underway for the funerals of numerous victims killed in Israeli airstrikes that have targeted various towns and cities across the country. These attacks come amid ongoing violations of the fragile ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.
An Israeli drone strike near Beit Lev in southern Lebanon on Monday was followed by two air raids on the towns of Haris and Talloussa, resulting in nine deaths and three injuries, the heaviest toll since the ceasefire was implemented.
Tyre’s local authorities are coordinating the burial of 192 individuals killed in the Israeli strikes. Civil defense teams, medical personnel, and local groups are recovering the bodies for funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, the Israeli military has continued airstrikes on villages in Tyre and Bint Jbeil, despite previously declaring an end to its operations. These raids resumed before dawn, accompanied by flare and thermal balloon activity over Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon, causing heightened anxiety among displaced people returning to their homes.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health also reported a fatality from a drone strike in Marjayoun and a soldier wounded in the eastern Bekaa region. Israel's military confirmed it had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure, including rocket launchers.
As the situation escalates, U.S. officials have voiced concern over the stability of the ceasefire, urging Israel to allow for a monitoring mechanism. Both Israel and Lebanon have reportedly reassured the U.S. that they are committed to maintaining the ceasefire despite these violations.
