GCC Chief Applauds Truce Accord For Lebanon, Affirms Support For Government


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- GCC Secretary General Jassem Al-Budaiwi on Wednesday acclaimed the cease-fire agreement for Lebanon.
Al-Budaiwi in statement hoped the truce would be a serious step to halt the war, withdraw the Israeli forces from Lebanon, implement the UN Security Council resolution 1701 and return of the displaced to their hometowns.
The cease-fire agreement will be helpful to protect civilians and prepare the conditions for implementing all UN resolutions concerning Lebanon, he said, urging the stakeholders to abide by it to help in achieving security and stability in the region.
He re-affirmed the GCC unwavering support for the Lebanese people, continuous backing for Lebanon's sovereignty, security and stability as stipulated in the GCC ministerial statement, 161, that calls for implementing the UNSG resolution 1701 that affirms necessity that Israel respect the Lebanese borders, the government imposition of of its control on all Lebanese territories according to the relevant UNSG resolutions and the Taif accord.
