In a strategic initiative to enhance India's position in the global gaming industry, the Department for Promotion of industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has entered into a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WinZO, a prominent social gaming and interactive entertainment platform.

The collaboration is designed to address critical talent gaps in the sector by providing comprehensive training in crucial areas such as coding, animation, and game design.

The landmark agreement aims to accelerate the growth of India's interactive entertainment ecosystem by fostering innovation and creating a pipeline of skilled professionals capable of competing on the international stage.

With an ambitious vision, the partnership seeks to build a robust network of over 2,000 start-ups, innovators, and students, offering them vital mentorship, industry insights, and access to global opportunities.

Central to the MoU is the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) by WinZO in collaboration with DPIIT.

This innovative hub will serve as a critical launchpad for emerging entrepreneurs, with a strategic focus on developing an industry-ready workforce, crafting innovative monetisation strategies, and generating world-class 'Made in India' intellectual property targeting global markets.

The initiative also holds significant potential for attracting foreign direct investment and driving the manufacturing of interactive technology products within the country.

The partnership will expand WinZO's Tech Triumph Program (Bharat Edition), a platform dedicated to identifying and nurturing India's most promising game developers.

Having already gained recognition at prestigious global forums like the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and Gamescom LATAM, the program is set to amplify its impact through DPIIT's strategic support.

Founded in early 2018, WinZO has established itself as a formidable player in the gaming landscape, securing Series-C funding of USD 100 million from notable investors including Griffin Gaming Partners, Courtside Ventures, and Makers Fund.

The platform currently hosts games from third-party developers on its Android app and boasts an impressive user base of 200 million registered users across 14 languages.

The collaboration aligns with India's broader ambitions in the global gaming market, which is currently valued at USD 300 billion.

According to a USISPF report, the country's interactive entertainment sector is projected to grow to over USD 60 billion by 2034, with the potential to create more than 2 million jobs.

This strategic MoU represents a significant step towards realising these ambitious economic and technological objectives.
