Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan Set Ambitious Goal For Bilateral Trade Expansion

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 10. Bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan may reach $1 billion, said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as he addressed the media together with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports.

Tokayev highlighted the importance of the agreements reached during his official visit to Turkmenistan, along with the bilateral documents signed.

"Thanks to our joint efforts, last year, trade between our countries grew by 28 percent, surpassing half a billion dollars. This positive trend is continuing this year as well. We agreed to explore expanding the range of goods traded and creating favorable conditions for the development of mutual trade. We believe that the bilateral trade turnover can reach 1 billion dollars in the near future," he said.

The president added that there are promising opportunities for increasing the supply of Kazakh agricultural products, particularly wheat. "Turkmen businesses also have significant potential to boost exports to Kazakhstan and establish a long-term presence in our market".

"To fully unlock our trade and economic potential, Kazakhstan proposed strengthening interregional cooperation. Today marked the start of a mutually beneficial partnership in this area, with the signing of a Cooperation Plan between the Mangystau region authority and the administration of Balkan velayat," Tokayev added.
