Kazakhstan's Kazmunaygas Seeks Partnership With Canadian Firm To Cut Methane Emissions

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 25. Kazakhstan's NC KazMunayGas JSC has engaged in negotiations with Canada's General Magnetic Canada Inc. (GMCI) to collaborate on advanced technologies for monitoring and reducing methane emissions, Trend reports via the press service of KazMunayGas.

The discussions were held between KMG Chairman Askhat Khasenov and GMCI Founder and CEO Al Duerr.

By joining the OGMP 2.0 partnership, KazMunayGas has become the first national company in Kazakhstan to support the international initiative for methane emissions reporting standards. Over the next three years, the company plans to conduct a comprehensive inventory of methane leaks at its facilities, establish a baseline for emissions, and initiate leak detection and repair (LDAR) campaigns.

Currently, KazMunayGas is already working with international partners such as Carbon Limits and Tetra Tech to implement measurement activities, allowing the company to effectively address methane emission challenges.

Both parties expressed confidence that utilizing GMCI's advanced technologies will significantly reduce methane emissions and contribute to the sustainable development of Kazakhstan's energy sector.
