Kyrgyzstan Operating On Establishment Of Climate Trust Fund
“Kyrgyzstan supports the UN Secretary General's position on the need to reform the international financial architecture and reduce the debt burden for developing countries. We also propose a mechanism for replacing external debt with projects on climate and sustainable development and are working on the creation of the Climate Trust Fund, which will finance environmental projects in mountainous regions,” Zhaparov said.
The President noted that Kyrgyzstan pays special attention to climate issues in the implementation of its national policy and, based on the principles of green development, sets the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
“More than 95 percent of our energy is produced mainly by hydroelectric power plants, which are the main driver towards achieving the goal of zero emissions. Our country has ample opportunities to integrate renewable energy into various sectors of the economy, develop electric transportation infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, and ecotourism development,” Zhaparov emphasized.
According to him, the country is also implementing active measures to encourage the use of electric vehicles and improve energy efficiency.
