BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. The newly
appointed non-resident ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to
the Republic of Maldives, Elchin Huseynli, presented his
credentials to President Mohamed Muizzu on September 9, the
statement of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Republic of Maldives
said, Trend reports.
Receiving the diplomat after the official credentials
presentation ceremony, President Muizzu congratulated the
ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his work.
He expressed satisfaction with the state of friendly relations
between the two countries and noted that there is a great potential
for further expansion of ties.
Ambassador Huseynli conveyed to President Mohamed Muizzu the
greetings of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham
Aliyev.
Expressing gratitude for the greetings, President Muizzu, in
turn, asked to convey his greetings to the head of our state.
During the discussion, it was noted that mutually beneficial
cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Maldives is successfully
continuing in bilateral and multilateral formats. The information
was provided on the global initiatives implemented by Azerbaijan
during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2019-2023,
the work done on the institutional development of the organization,
and humanitarian and financial assistance provided to more than 80
countries, including developing small island states such as the
Maldives.
The Ambassador brought to attention that as the host of the 29th
session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework
Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan in
November, our country pays special attention to the challenges
faced by developing small island states against the backdrop of
climate change, makes maximum efforts to reach an agreement that
meets their needs and priorities, and provides broad support at the
national level.
President Muizzu highly assessed the efforts of Azerbaijan as
the host of COP29 and stated that he accepted the invitation of the
President of Azerbaijan to participate in the Summit of World
Leaders in Climate Action and will join this important event at the
global level.
During his visit to the Maldives, Ambassador Huseynli also met
with the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer,
Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer
Ibrahim, and Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy
Thoriq Ibrahim. The meetings exchanged views on ties in the fields
of politics, economy, tourism, air transportation, culture, and
education, as well as issues related to COP29, and discussed future
steps.
