KALBAJAR, Azerbaijan, September 4. In recent
developments, the power capacity of hydropower plants (HPPs) built
in Azerbaijan's liberated territories has reached 270 megawatts
(MW), spokesperson for Azerenergy, Teymur Abdullayev stated,
Trend reports.
The process of establishing these HPPs along the rivers
originating from the Lesser Caucasus mountain range is ongoing.
According to Abdullayev, over the course of the past year, a
whopping nine brand spanking new HPPs have been successfully
wrapped up in the liberated areas.
Abdullayev highlighted that the recently inaugurated small
hydroelectric plants "Zar" and "Toghanaly," opened on September 2,
have capacities of 4.3 MW and 4.1 MW, respectively.
"The commissioning of these plants significantly enhances the
region's green energy potential. Both HPPs were built within a year
and feature state-of-the-art digital equipment for turbines,
generators, and control panels. They are integrated into the
country's centralized optical cable network and SCADA system via
24-fiber optic lines," Abdullayev stated.
The "Zar" and "Toghanaly" HPPs are expected to produce up to 25
million kilowatt-hours of green energy, translating to a savings of
5.5 million cubic meters of natural gas and a reduction in carbon
dioxide emissions by over 10,000 tons.
On September 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham
Aliyev participated in the opening of the 4.3 MW "Zar" Small
Hydroelectric Power Station (SHPS) operated by Azerenerji OJSC in
Kalbajar and inaugurated the 4.1 MW "Toghanaly" SHPS in Goygol
district via the SCADA system.
