Kyrgyzstan, WB Discuss Mountain Regions Development


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 29. Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan for mountain regions development Dinara Kemelova and Hugh Riddell, Country Manager for World bank in Kyrgyzstan, discussed mountain area advancement, Trend reports.

The meeting focused on promoting mountain products and tourism, as well as protecting mountain ecosystems, including the snow leopard.

They also addressed issues related to preventive measures and responses to natural disasters and climate-related challenges in mountainous areas, and adapting Agriculture and communities to climate change.

Kemelova briefed Riddell on the Five Years of Action for Mountain Region Development plan for 2023-2027 and Kyrgyzstan's international initiatives related to mountain issues.

On December 14, 2022, the UN General Assembly endorsed Kyrgyzstan's initiative to launch the Five Years of Action for Mountain Region Development 2023–2027.

The action plan aims to encourage mountain countries to implement a comprehensive range of joint actions to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change, advance the“green” economy and technologies, create financial mechanisms for strengthened cooperation, develop science and education in sustainable mountain development, conserve biodiversity, and prevent natural disasters in mountain regions.
