BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. US firms regularly
contact us looking for opportunities to bring their goods to
Uzbekistan's markets, a spokesperson from the US Department of
State told Trend .
"Our products likewise require review and certification for
import into Uzbekistan, so expediting that process would help US
agricultural and livestock products reach Uzbek consumers. The US
suppliers of technologies, industrial equipment, and manufactured
goods are also actively bidding on public procurement opportunities
as well as working with partners in Uzbekistan," the spokesperson
said.
According to the spokesperson, the US is committed to assisting
Uzbekistan as it implements its announced reform agenda, including
regarding economic issues. The recent economic reforms have greatly
improved the investment climate, and further reforms will bring
more investment and technical expertise to Uzbekistan.
"Generally speaking, we welcome and encourage multilateral
efforts in support of regional connectivity in Central Asia and the
South Caucasus westward to Europe. Such efforts contribute to the
creation of a more secure, resilient, and prosperous region," the
representative of the US Department of State emphasized.
The spokesperson from the US Department of State noted that
through the US Agency for International Development's (USAID)
regional Trade Central Asia activity, the US is promoting increased
trade, entrepreneurship, e-commerce, and private sector
competitiveness in and among the countries of the region.
"Through the Partnership for Global Infrastructure, the US is
currently evaluating potential areas for infrastructure investment
where it could contribute project advisory technical assistance,
project preparation, and financing to tangibly move forward
strategic projects in the Trans-Caspian International Transport
Route," the spokesperson added.
Earlier, Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Jasurbek
Choriev, held a meeting with Acting Special Coordinator for the
Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI), Helaina
Matza, to discuss financing infrastructure projects aimed at
developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle
