Children die due to ‘horrendous’ UK stabbing assault

(MENAFN) In a harrowing incident in Southport, England, a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed yoga event for children resulted in the death of two young victims and left nine others injured, six of whom are in critical condition. The attack, which occurred on Monday just before noon, also injured two adults who were trying to intervene.

Merseyside Police responded swiftly to the scene on Hart Street, where they apprehended a 17-year-old male suspect, identified as Ali-Al-Shakati from Banks, a nearby community. The police have stated that the attack is “not currently being treated as terror-related.” According to Channel 3, Shakati is an asylum-seeker who arrived in the UK by boat last year and was reportedly on the MI6 watch list as well as known to local mental health services.

The event targeted was a “Taylor Swift yoga and dance workshop” intended for elementary-school-aged children, hosted by a local studio. The attack has shocked the community, with eyewitnesses describing the scene as “like something from a horror movie” and not what they would expect in their “sunny” town of Southport.

Colin Parry, who owns a nearby vehicle repair business, reported seeing several young girls among the victims and described the emotional aftermath as distressing, with mothers screaming in panic.

Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has called for restraint, urging the public to avoid spreading “unconfirmed speculation and false information” and to await official updates. Authorities have emphasized that there is no broader threat to the community at this time.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are working to provide more information as it becomes available.
