HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of Kushk-i-Kohna district in western Herat province have voiced their frustration about inadequate health services in the district and highlighted several other pressing issues.

They noted a severe shortage of health centers, medical personnel, ambulances and essential medicines.

Jalil Ahmad, a local resident, expressed concern about what he said a limited number of health facilities in the district.

He said deteriorated roads often delayed taking patients to health centers in Herat city, leading to tragic instances.

He emphasized that the district's health centers lacked necessary resources to meet the needs of its population.

Fazal Ahmad, another resident, echoed the same concerns, noting that vehicles transporting patients frequently broke down due to the challenging road condition, resulting in avoidable fatalities.

He lamented the absence of ambulances, which exacerbated difficulties faced by residents.

To address these challenges, local residents called on the government to improve health services and invest in road construction in the district.

Dr. Hamidullah Afghan, the district's health in charge, underlined the need for a well-equipped hospital to address health issues of more than 90,000 residents.

He stressed the community deserved better health services and facilities.

The Herat Public Health Department acknowledged these concerns and outlined plans to address them.

Dr. Ghulam Mohammad Hanafi, deputy director of the department, confirmed that efforts were underway to upgrade the existing health centers and establish new ones in Kushk-i-Kohna and other remote districts.

“These measures aim to enhance access to healthcare and alleviate the current shortcomings.”
