Cairo: The Arab League has welcomed the announcement issued by the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, regarding the agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis on measures to de-escalate the situation in the banking sector and Yemeni Airlines.

Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League Jamal Rushdi, explained in a statement Thursday that the agreed measures would alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people, reduce escalation and improve conditions for the parties to resume Political and diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

Rushdi added that the agreements could represent an important step towards building confidence if the Houthi party shows the necessary commitment to de-escalation and the sincere intention to engage in a political process, based on the three known references, leading to ending the Yemeni conflict that has been ongoing for more than ten years.
