TIR System Simplifies Cargo Transportation Along Middle Corridor - IRU

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 24. The TIR system further speeds up trade and border crossings among countries along the Trans-Caspian International transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor), simplifying the tasks of exporters and importers, Trend reports, citing the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

"The TIR system further speeds up trade and border crossings among countries along the Middle Corridor, simplifying the tasks of exporters and importers. One freight vehicle crosses multiple national borders along the route, avoiding checks in transit countries and delays on the basis of just one TIR Carnet, which at the same time provides an international guarantee of payment of customs duties. The TIR system is administered by the IRU based on a mandate received from the UN," the IRU said.

According to the IRU, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is one of the shortest routes between China and Europe.

"Starting in China, the route crosses Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea and leads to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and then the countries of the EU. Transportation along the Middle Corridor is actively developing, making it the main land transport corridor connecting the largest trading partners at different ends of the Eurasian diagonal. Increasing the volume of TIR transport along the Middle Corridor will ensure uninterrupted trade, contribute to the diversification of trade corridors between China and Europe, and increase trade turnover," the IRU noted.

The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.

The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.

The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
