EU elites ignore Orban

(MENAFN) Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, having assumed the rotating six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, has chosen a notably unconventional approach: focusing on tangible results. In stark contrast to previous presidents like France’s Emmanuel Macron, who gained notoriety in 2022 for creating a logo with his initials and largely symbolic gestures, Orban aims to address real global conflicts and advocate for peace.

Macron’s tenure was characterized by a focus on globalist agendas such as climate change, digital transition, and the European Union's military-industrial complex, which he promoted alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Their efforts were widely seen as catering to elite interests rather than addressing pressing global issues.

Orban, however, has chosen a different path, setting the agenda for Hungary’s European Union presidency around resolving conflicts and promoting peace. His plan includes hosting an European Union presidency meeting in Budapest at the end of August to tackle these contentious global challenges. This approach has met with resistance from other European Union elites, who are dismayed by Orban’s focus on peace rather than the more symbolic actions they have championed, such as environmental measures and economic sanctions against Russia.
