Flooding in southwestern China leaves over 30 people missing

(MENAFN) On Saturday, state-run media reported that severe flooding in southwestern China has left at least 30 people missing. The heavy rainfall, which caused flash floods in the Ya'an region of Sichuan province's Hanyuan County, also resulted in substantial damage. More than 40 homes have been affected by the floods, with many either severely damaged or completely destroyed. Emergency response teams have been deployed to the area and have commenced search and rescue operations in an attempt to locate those who remain unaccounted for.

The situation in Sichuan comes amid another devastating event reported earlier the same day. In northwestern Shaanxi province, at least 11 individuals have been confirmed dead following the partial collapse of a highway bridge in Shangluo city's Zhashui County. The collapse occurred at approximately 8:40 PM local time (12:40 GMT) on Friday. The bridge's failure was precipitated by a sudden and intense downpour, which led to flash floods.

The collapse has further complicated rescue efforts as teams work to retrieve victims and assess the damage. Both incidents underscore the severe impact of extreme weather events on various regions of China and highlight the ongoing challenges faced by local authorities in managing and responding to such natural disasters.
