Egyptian, German Foreign Ministers Discuss Gaza, Sudan, Bilateral Ties

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, held a phone call on Wednesday to discuss regional issues and strengthen bilateral relations.

Baerbock congratulated Abdelatty on his recent appointment and expressed Germany's appreciation for the strong ties between the two countries.

Abdelatty emphasised the importance of Egypt's stability for regional security and highlighted Germany's role in supporting Egypt's development, particularly through German companies operating in the country.

He called for joint efforts to address regional crises, leveraging Egypt's influence in the Middle East and Germany's weight on the international stage.

The discussion also touched on the situations in Gaza and Sudan. Abdelatty briefed Baerbock on Egypt's efforts to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza and support the flow of humanitarian aid. He underscored the importance of continued German support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty outlined Egypt's role in hosting a conference for Sudanese political and civil forces, aiming to facilitate dialogue and a peaceful path to reconciliation. He stressed the worsening humanitarian situation in Sudan and Egypt's efforts to alleviate the suffering of refugees and displaced persons.

Baerbock acknowledged the importance of stability in the Middle East and expressed appreciation for Egypt's ongoing cooperation. She highlighted Germany's interest in the humanitarian situation in Gaza and its readiness to support Egyptian efforts.

She also acknowledged Egypt's role in Sudan and the importance of a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The two ministers agreed to maintain close communication and coordinate on regional developments and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Germany.
