Ashadhi Ekadashi 2024: PM Modi Extends Wishes, 'May Blessings Of Bhagwan Vitthal...'


(MENAFN- Live Mint) Ashadhi Ekadashi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended wishes for Ashadhi Ekadashi. Extending greetings for the festival, PM Modi wished the festival to motivate everyone to“serve the poorest of the poor with diligence.”

“Greetings on Ashadhi Ekadashi! May the blessings of Bhagwan Vitthal always remain upon us and inspire us to build a society filled with joy and prosperity. May this occasion also inspire devotion, humility and compassion in us all. May it also motivate us to serve the poorest of the poor with diligence,” read a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The festival is also known as“Devshayani Ekadashi 2024” and is celebrated with huge fervour yearly during the Aashaadh Shukla Paksha.

Devshayani Ekadashi, which also known as Ashadhi Ekadashi, is a significant day for Hindu devotees who observe strict fast on this day. The occasion is celebrated with huge joy and fervour on the 11th day of Shukla Paksha in Ashadha month. This year, the day falls on July 17, 2024. The Ekadashi timings began on July 16 at 8:33 pm, and it will end on July 17, 9:02 pm. On this day, people observe fast for Lord Krishna. The fast will be broken on Parana time, July 18 from 5:17 am to 7:56 am.

Shayani Ekadashi holds a lot of significance among Hindu devotees of Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna, as they observe a strict fast on the occasion. The fast is opened the next day in the morning. It is believed that observing a fast on this day helps attain Moksha, salvation, and relieves devotees from all kinds of suffering, pain, and worldly pleasures.

Apart from the nationwide celebration on this day, the festival is closely linked with the Pandharpur Wari pilgrimage in Maharashtra , where thousands of devotees, known as Warkaris, join the celebration and undertake a pilgrimage to the Vithoba temple in Pandharpur. Generally, the journey starts from various locations in Maharashtra and concludes on Ashadhi Ekadashi.
