Biden reportedly facing immense pressure to withdraw from presidential race

(MENAFN) United States President Joe Biden is reportedly facing immense pressure to withdraw from the presidential race following a disastrous debate performance against Republican challenger Donald Trump. Multiple campaign aides have expressed to the news agency that the 81-year-old Democrat has little chance of recovery and needs to step aside.

Following the June 27 debate, Biden has encountered growing scrutiny from the media, senior party members, donors, and high-profile supporters, all urging him to consider exiting the race. In a leaked memo to staff, campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon and campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez acknowledged that the debate represented a significant setback for the campaign but emphasized that Biden had overcome obstacles before.

However, the sentiment among some campaign officials is far more severe. One anonymous Biden campaign official stated bluntly, “He needs to drop out,” asserting that the president would “never recover from this.” Another aide noted that no one involved in the campaign sees a viable path forward for Biden. A different campaign worker went as far as to label Biden’s chances of winning the upcoming November election as “zero.” This has raised concerns that the president's struggles could negatively impact down-ballot races, potentially jeopardizing Democratic seats in Congress.

Despite this internal turmoil, Biden appeared on a friendly MSNBC program on Monday, asserting that he was “not going anywhere” and reaffirming his intention to be the party’s nominee. Nevertheless, the news agency`s sources indicated a pervasive feeling within the campaign and the broader party that Democrats might be better served by nominating someone else, such as Vice President Kamala Harris.

Additionally, the news agency reported that Biden's aides have been carefully scripting and orchestrating cabinet meetings, leading to the conclusion that the last full cabinet meeting took place on October 2 of the previous year. This level of management has raised eyebrows and suggests deeper concerns about the administration's current trajectory.

Overall, the situation surrounding Biden's candidacy underscores the complexities and pressures facing incumbent leaders in the lead-up to an election, particularly amid heightened scrutiny and expectations.
