Houthis target 3 ships in Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Houthi militia announced that it had targeted three ships in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden using a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. In a statement, the militia specified that the American ship, Maersk Sentosa, was attacked in the Arabian Sea with multiple ballistic and cruise missiles. Additionally, the Houthi forces targeted another ship, Marthopolis, in the Arabian Sea using a number of drones. The Houthi's offensive also extended to the Israeli ship, MSC Patnaree, in the Gulf of Aden, which was similarly targeted with drones.
Earlier, shipping giant Maersk confirmed that its vessel, Sentosa, reported being targeted by a flying object in the northern Gulf of Aden. According to a statement given to a UK news agency by Maersk, there were no injuries reported among the crew, nor was there any damage to the ship or its cargo. A spokesperson for the Copenhagen-based company clarified that the ship was flying a U.S. flag and was operating under its subsidiary, Maersk Line Ltd.
In a related advisory, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the captain of a merchant ship noted an explosion near the vessel, approximately 180 nautical miles (333 kilometers) east of Nashton, Yemen. The agency assured that both the ship and its crew remained safe despite the incident. This series of targeted attacks underscores the heightened risks and ongoing instability in the region, affecting maritime operations and international shipping routes.
